SCNC (1)South Carolina Aquarium in Charleston, 100 Aquarium Wharf in Charleston, is a not-to-be- missed place for boaters to spend a great day.

The Charleston Maritime Center has plenty of transient space and is a few minute walk to the aquarium. For rates and other information: http://www.cmcevents.com/dockratesheet.html .

The aquarium is home to more than 5,000 animals! How many do you think you can see in your visit? Perhaps you’ll start your adventure at Saltmarsh Aviary, which houses the 6,000-gallon stingray tank. Feed the stingrays  and see puffer fish and diamondback terrapins.

The Touch Tank is where you can touch and feel several varieties of invertebrates, including hermit crabs, sea urchins, and horseshoe crabs.

At the Ocean Tank, you’ll meet Caretta, a 220-pound loggerhead sea turtle. You’ll also be nose- to-nose (with glass in between, of course) with plenty of giant sharks!

In addition to all the marine life, the Backyard Habitat has native plants, gardens, and plenty of native birds, butterflies, and beneficial insects.

The South Carolina Aquarium is open daily from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.  To purchase tickets and for other information: http://scaquarium.org/tickets-hours/.
