New Bern Fireman’s Museum

dt-scnc-1The New Bern Fireman’s Museum, located in New Bern, North Carolina, is one of the cooler museums in this country. It’s a blazingly unique and exciting experience, and a red-hot gem of a museum.

The museum was founded in 1955 with the mission to preserve the history of fire fighting in New Bern, the home of the first chartered fire company in the state. Along with that history, visitors learn the about the Atlantic Hook and Ladder Company and the New Bern Steam Fire Engine Company.
At the museum, you’ll experience the Great Fire of 1922 and talk to Fred, New Bern’s famous fire horse. There are also hands-on exhibits and plenty of authentic memorabilia.

Before heading to the museum, take your boat to New Bern Grand Marina, about a 10-minute walk to the museum. It has transient space the boating public is invited to use at no charge if you are enjoying their city. For more information regarding the marina and policy, see here:
